Senator Regola presents
grant to Westmoreland Volunteer Fire Department
$32,500 to upgrade,
expand and provide needed facilities for fire station
While
attending the Westmoreland City Volunteer Fire
Department’s annual banquet today (February 17), Senator
Bob Regola presented the organization with a $32,500
state grant for the expansion and upgrade of its station
house.
The
Fire Department will use the money to add a
lounge/meeting room onto the existing building to serve
the department and community. The funds will also go
toward improvements to the electrical service in the
whole building and provide for a standby generator to
run lights and heat in the event of a power outage.
Plans also call for the installation of a unisex,
handicap accessible restroom.
“This
grant will help the Westmoreland Fire Company make
essential improvements to its station house,” Senator
Regola said. “Currently, the station is too small and
outdated. They have already experienced vandalism to
property that cannot be kept inside the truck room due
to size limitations. The lack of an adequate restroom
facility also poses special problems, especially when it
is used for public purposes, such as a polling place on
Election Day.”
