Regola:  Senate Recognizes Pennsylvania Land Surveyors

March  18th through 24th Designated “Land Surveyor Week”

The Pennsylvania Senate has unanimously adopted a resolution introduced by Senator Bob Regola marking March 18th through 24th as “Land Surveyor Week” in Pennsylvania.

“The field of land surveying has had a proud history not only in Pennsylvania but in the development of the nation in the mapping of the uncharted territories,” said Sen. Regola.  “Three of our most revered presidents, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln, were land surveyors.  It was Thomas Jefferson who, in 1785, argued for and won the adoption of an ordinance establishing the necessity of surveying land, before a sale, to prevent overlapping claims, and to simplify deeds and registers.”

“Today, the specialized training and specific skills of land surveyors remain essential as we rely upon precise measurements for developing our communities, our Commonwealth and our nation,” said Regola.

Senate Resolution 25 was introduced on behalf of the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors, a statewide professional organization, which exists for the purpose of supporting, improving and enhancing the profession, its members, and the practice of land surveying.  To these ends, the critical work of the Society focuses on providing education, legislative involvement, enhancing the public awareness, and the promulgation of the ethics of the profession.
