Regola: Hearing set on Uniform Construction Code Hearing will kick off comprehensive review of UCC The state Senate Local Government and Labor & Industry Committees, chaired by Senators Bob Regola (R-39) and John Gordner (R-27), respectively, will hold a joint hearing next week on the Uniform Construction Code (UCC). The hearing will be held on Tuesday, May 8th, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the Senate Majority Caucus Room in the State Capitol. Department of Labor and Industry Secretary Stephen Schmerin, as well as representatives of the Pennsylvania Builders Association, Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors, Pennsylvania Association of Building Code Officers, and Associated Builders and Contractors are scheduled to testify. “The Uniform Construction Code has been anything but uniform in its application across this Commonwealth,” said Sen. Regola. “At all levels -- home owners, builders, municipalities, and state officials are experiencing major difficulties dealing with the UCC and something needs to be done about it.” “This is the first of what will be several hearings our committees will hold on the Uniform Construction Code,” said Sen. Gordner. “I expect there to be a great deal of discussion on uniformity in enforcement and fees, the role of 3rd party inspectors, the effect on individuals and small business, proposals to establish review panels to explore amendments to the Code, as well as suggestions to improve the code processes ###
