Fire & EMS Grants Bill Clears Senate
The Senate today approved a House Bill that would reauthorize a popular $25 million fire/EMS grant program for five years, according to Senator Bob Regola (R-39), prime sponsor of the Senate version. “I am pleased that House Bill 906 passed the Senate. It does not matter whether it is my bill or a House Bill that gets passed. What matters is that we get a bill to the Governor that provides essential support for our first responders,” said Sen. Regola. “We have stated on many occasions our appreciation for our volunteer firefighters and EMS providers. Passing this legislation is another strong example of our support.” Since 2000, the General Assembly has regularly appropriated $25 million to the PA Emergency Management Agency to provide grants to volunteer fire and EMS departments. However, it has lapsed in the past. Sen. Regola said that the five year authorization would providing funding on a steady basis. The bill now goes back to the House for concurrence. ### Contact: Nate Silcox (717) 787-6063 |
