Committee Approves Landowner Protection Bill
Legislation would place liability on The Senate Game and Fisheries Committee today approved legislation that would further protect property owners who allow their land to be used for hunting, according to Senator Bob Regola (R-39) and member of the committee. “Many property owners would open their land for hunting, but they are concerned of being sued if an accident occurs,” said Sen. Regola. “We should be encouraging -- rather than discouraging -- property owners to keep their land open for recreational uses, including hunting, whenever and wherever possible.” House Bill 13 would ensure that landowners who open their property -- and do not charge a fee -- will not be held liable for accidents involving others while engaged in hunting. Other protected recreational activities in law include fishing, swimming, boating, camping, picnicking, hiking, pleasure driving, nature study, water skiing, water sports, cave exploration and viewing or enjoying historical, archaeological, scenic, or scientific sites. The bill now goes to the full Senate for consideration. ### Contact: Nate Silcox (717) 787-6063
