Regola Supports Effort to Keep Jobs In Pa
bill would protect industries from
The Pennsylvania Senate today approved a measure that lets industrial and manufacturing companies enter into long-term energy contracts, which could make a major difference in whether those companies stay in Pennsylvania or take their jobs elsewhere, according to Senator Bob Regola (R-39), a supporter of the measure. House Bill 1530 would lift a Public Utility Commission requirement that electric companies purchase electricity for industrial consumers at prevailing market prices. Specifically, the bill would permit electric utilities to offer long-term, fixed-rate contracts to industrial customers similar to they way they currently can for residential customers. “This measure will help protect against spikes in energy costs,” said Sen. Regola. “Concerns about price spiking, especially as rate caps are lifted, have resonated through many employers in our region, such as Latrobe Specialty Steel, which is looking to expand its operations, but is wary of the potential for escalating operating costs. I am pleased that the Senate has acted to address these concerns and I am hopeful that this bill will soon be signed into law.” ### Contact: Nate Silcox (717) 787-6063
