One Commonwealth, One Oath of Office Senator Regola’s bill would provide a statewide standard Senator Bob Regola (R-39) has introduced legislation that would establish a uniform oath of office for all municipal officials who are required to take an oath prior to taking office. Under Senator Regola’s legislation, the oath would be: I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support, obey and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of this Commonwealth and that I will discharge the duties of my office with fidelity. “This is the same oath for members of the General Assembly,” Senator Regola said. “Currently, the various local government codes -- for counties, cities, boroughs, and townships -- contain different sets of oaths. This legislation would simply provide a straightforward oath that is consistent for all municipal officials in the Commonwealth.” The County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania League of Cities and Municipalities, the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors and the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs are supportive of the legislation. Senate Bill 1332 has been referred to the Senate Local Government Committee, chaired by Senator Regola. “I am planning to move this bill out of Committee this week and am looking forward to its timely consideration by the full Senate,” said Sen. Regola. ### Contact: Nathan Silcox (717) 787-6063
